Today we launch our new blog.
It feels good to recommit, like a vow renewal ceremony where we promise to make the next chapter as good as the last. I’ve known these girls for going on ten years, been blogging with them for five, and it is easy to call them great loves of my life. I’m so grateful they’re still in this with me too – still willing to make long distance friendship a priority.
But things have changed. As we’ve written through our late twenties our time has become less and less our own. Visits that used to be often are now spars, boyfriends have become husbands, exercise a necessity; we’re no longer just four friends talking through our twenties, we’re four women navigating what it means to grow up without growing apart.
We know we are going to have work at this. Posting regularly does not come easy, nor does writing about the important things that help our souls cross the void. Time, distance, age, apathy will all fight against us in this effort to connect – but when I look at back at the posts we’ve written over the last five years I know this medium has made us stronger. There is a vulnerability in writing a post that is hard to reach via Skype, Facebook, or texting. Those apps help us stay in touch, stay up to date, but this blog forces us to write as much for ourselves as for each other. This isn’t a highlight reel, it’s a journal – filled with entries that help us figure out who we become.
I’m ready to commit to this again. Are you?
Ready and Willing!
Always Friends- Afield or not!
